Ecobank Ghana in response to the call to ‘Support One Needy Student with One Laptop (SONSOL)’ project of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology has donated one hundred (100) brand new HP laptop computers to the University. The bank presented the brand new laptop computers to the University on Thursday, 18th November 2021 at the Council Chamber.

The Managing Director (MD) of Ecobank Ghana, Mr. Dan Sackey pledged the bank’s commitment to donate Hundred (100) laptop computers annually for a period of three years. He stated that the kind gesture was because of the great collaboration that has existed between the two brands. They also deemed it relevant to develop the next leadership of the country who are less privileged, he added
According to the MD, ‘dealing with the impact of Covid-19 made them realise the better use of technology to work and forge collaborations. He thus applauded the blended mode (online and in-person) of teaching and learning adopted by KNUST which has become vital in the era of Covid-19.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson was enthused about the kind donation from Ecobank. She stated that KNUST admits the highest number of Senior High School (SHS) graduates in the country, thus, called for more support from philanthropists in various companies and associations.
She assured a rigorous selection process to ensure that the right students receive the laptop computers. She further called on Ecobank to help mentor the beneficiaries and imbibe soft skills needed to make them employable in the competitive market.
